There’s nothing more glorious than a powder day in Switzerland at an empty resort when the sun is shining and there are still snowflakes lingering in the air.
The first trick in snowboarding anyone should learn, the ollie, will save your life, your time, and your money.
Each Spring, the who’s who of freestyle snowboarding assembles at a location chosen by Snowboarder Mag for the construction of the biggest and most innovative terrain parks known to mankind. The good old fashioned hip will always be the measuring stick by which park riders prove themselves.
Coming in out of the cold to a pile of nachos inside of a rustic A-frame bar and restaurant - name something more satisfying, I’ll wait.

The Grenade crew always built event setups that were kind terrifying to look at and super fun to ride. Hundreds of people would get together and just rip in the spring sunshine. I think there were events, but everyone was having so much fun it was hard to feel a competitive vibe.
The Holy Bowly was an event that had a big influence in where modern snowboarding is today. It, and other events like the Gerry Lopez Big Wave Challenge turned away from the mainstream competitive events like the X-games, and focused on the foundation of snowboarding. Turning, riding, and going fast.
I have SO many good photos of Gray. He and I are close friends, our eyes for photography were similar, he’s got great style, and we were able to communicate well. Those four things made shooting with him super efficient.
In my opinion JP Walker is The Godfather of modern freestyle snowboarding. He rode it all, pipe, streets, park, and the backcountry, and has invented dozens of tricks that still win contests and show up in video parts to this day.
Don’t stare into the sun, unless you want to turn a boring terrain park photo into something different.
Spring might be my favorite season. Fall is good, but you can’t snowboard.
This pipe was so icy, but Cam is a Jackson kid, so he’s prepared to rip anywhere, any time. We gave the pipe a quick go because the light was so weird that day.
If you ever get a chance to ride ‘Revy’ fasten your seatbelt. The mountain is so big that it often has it’s base and summit in two different weather patterns. When the inversion comes in, riding above the clouds is an unreal experience.
I think this photo would make an insane postcard for some tourist shop.
While shooting in this snowstorm, my flashes were refracting in the snowfall so powerfully that Ski Patrol CLOSED THE RESORT. They feared that a thunderstorm had descended on the mountain, until they found us down in the terrain park shooting with powerful Elinchrom strobes.
